Flax Seed Oil

Great Source Of EFA's

Flax Oil Capsules  ~  Flax Oil Liquid  Fish Oils

Essential Fatty Acid Deficiency

Omega 3 fatty acids are deficient in most people. Flax seed is the best food for this crucially needed Omega 3.  It also contains Omega 6, another essential fatty acid.

There is a terrible widespread deficiency of Alpha Linolenic Acid, the Omega 3 source Essential Fatty Acid, and of the Omega 3 fatty acids that are derived from it.  CLICK HERE to read more about these fatty acids.

Help With Cancer

Studies done years ago in Germany by Dr. Budwig demonstrated benefits of nutrients found in flax seed for cancer patients.

Her studies suggested that it was important to have a protein food to be eaten with flax oil so that lipo-proteins could be formed to deliver the needed fatty acids in flax seed.  Cottage cheese was recommended as a source of lipo-proteins.  (Proteins serve as carriers in the body for other nutrients to be received by cells as nourishment.)

Actually, the whole milled flax seed with its 22% protein, including all the essential amino acids, is a much better way of providing those needed proteins with the Omega 3 oil -- all contained in the same food.

Oils vs. Whole Flax Seed

Although Omega 3 fish oil capsules and flax oil are quite popular, these products are missing the high quality protein available from whole flax seed.  Also there are problems of greater concern with these items.

Certain fish oils are high in Omega 3 fatty acids -- dark-backed, torpedo-shaped, cold water fish such as cod, mackerel and sardines, as well as salmon. However, there is a major problem of contamination of fish with mercury, PCB's, etc. And you would have to eat a lot of fish to get a good supply of the Omega 3 fats.

Further, the Omega 3 fish oil provides only derivative Omega 3 fatty acids -- EPA and DHA, rather than the primary essential source, Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA).

Many people have heard about and taken flaxseed oil. The problem is that this, like most oils, begins going rancid as soon as it is pressed. Exposure to oxygen begins the free radical formation that causes rancidity. The older the oil is the more rancid it is.

Nearly all fish oil and flax oil products are rancid.  A significant amount of time has probably passed since the oil was extracted; and it is unlikely that the product has been refrigerated at all times. In any case, refrigeration does not stop the deterioration, it only slows the process down.  So both flaxseed oil capsules and Omega 3 fish oil capsules are likely to contain rancid oils.

Organic flax seed is the food highest in Alpha Linolenic Acid, and the best food source for getting the needed Omega 3 fatty acids derived from it. Consuming high quality, properly milled organic flaxseed with a high oil content is the best choice for obtaining ALA.  Milled flax seed has many tasty uses.

The oil in flax seed is a rich source of essential fatty acids. (EFA's) Several scientific studies show that consumption of omega-3 EFA's can benefit the heart.

Flax contains Alpha Linolenic Acid and also Linoleic Acid, another essential fatty acid. These two fatty acids are termed “essential” because the body cannot manufacture them. EFA's are precursors to prostaglandins.

Until recently, experts believed the best sources of omega-3 were fish oils. While fish oils are a good source, flax seed oil contains twice as much omega-3 as fish oil products, without the fishy aftertaste.

Omega 3 fish oils (from mackeral, haddock, sardines and salmon) contain the actual Omega 3 fatty acids, EPA & DHA.  However, almost all fish oils have levels of mercury contamination that should be a concern, and there is the rancidity problem.
